SCATTERED Audition Requirements

Actors were required to submit the following for only one character, but are still being considered for any role:

- a side reading from the book

- a song excerpt from a solo piece in the show

- a harmony line from one of the trio pieces in the show

Sides, sheet music and music tracks (with pre-recorded vocals to assist with your rehearsal) will be provided by SideNote.

SUPERHEROES Audition Requirements

Actors were required to submit the following for only one character, but are still being considered for any role:

- a short monologue*, inspired by the show

- a movement audition, guided by Josh McKinnon with music by Paul Grahame

The monologue script and movement audition video will be provided by SideNote.

CALLBACKS for SUPERHEROES are via Zoom on Tuesday, March 9, from 4:30-6:00pm.

*these monologues are not excerpts from the show, but have been created for the production team to be able to asses your acting technique and creativity.

If you were not called back for a role, that does not mean you haven't been cast in a show.

For virtual auditions, we ask you to record your side read and songs,

and/or movement video and monologue, as individual videos.

The quality and format of your video submissions is not important to us.

We can see your talent in whatever medium you choose to share it.

We hope that you are not discouraged from auditioning if you are less practiced at virtual auditions

Links to YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive or other media platforms are more than acceptable.

You will hear back from us by Friday, March 12 at 5:00pm,

no matter if you are cast or we choose to go a different direction for that particular show.

Scattered

Scattered

Book by Marisa Roggeveen

Music and Lyrics by Stefanie Barnfather

Directed by Katelyn Morishita

Scattered is a Canadian one act musical about sisterhood, loss and reconnecting with the people you used to love.

The cast can be any combination of ethnicity, but must be female-identifying. The role of Callie may be played by a non-binary actor who is comfortable in a world that revolves around the experiences of sisters. An alternate text with adapted pronouns and alternate music with a lowered key will be provided for auditions, so please indicate your gender-identification if you are submitting for Callie and if you require a lowered score.

This show is hosted by SideNote Theatre, supported by Calgary Arts Development and the City of Calgary, but is run and managed by the collective design team.

Superheroes

Story by Josh McKinnon

Book by Marisa Roggeveen and Stefanie Barnfather

Co-directed by Josh McKinnon and Janos Zeller

Superheroes is a physical theatre show that takes place in an alternate reality where youth with super powers are trained to completely accept the privilege of their gifts, and then to use their powers in the service of good.

Each character can be performed by actors from any gender-identification, race, ability or age. The ages indicated are those of the characters, not the actors that are required to play them. The cast will all need to be good movers-- but don't have to be dance or combat trained. If an actor requires a support device to assist them with their movements, the choreography will be adapted to accommodate those requirements.

The cast will attend a 5-day dance and combat training course, facilitated by the team and a combat specialist.

The cast will be participants in the final crafting of the script. We ask that applicants are comfortable working in collaborative settings with generosity, and are open to supplying their authentic voice to be embedded in the dialogue of the show.

The swings will learn the tracks for two members of the Super Squad and half of the 45+ characters. These specific roles will be determined when casting. Looking for actors who can manage information effectively.

All contracts on this project are profit-share.

Swings are guaranteed two shows each.

Please indicate on your submission if you are a

member of ACTRA or EQUITY.
